do you mean by complying to European standards ?
To
meet European Union standards and to be registered by the appropriate
regulatory body, the vehicle must conform to certain specifications
for :
- lights
and signals
- brakes
- engine
- safety…
Except
where exemptions are appropriate, we will ensure that all the technical
modifications are done to guarantee that the vehicle will be registered.
Can
I still register a vehicle if the make or model isn’t officially recognized
in France ?
Yes,
we can obtain appropriate exemptions for parts that would be too difficult
to modify such as windows, safety belts, etc.
How long does it take to obtain registration ?
It
takes about two (2) months to obtain approval from the Transport department.
The administration procedure, which requires the files to be forwarded
to the various departments concerned, takes, in general, a futher two
(2) or three (3) months.
For
how long can I drive in France with foreign license plates ?
Once the file is registered by the administration, and the vehicle is
insured according to French Regulations, you may continue to drive your
car until you obtain your “carte grise” (French registration document).

What
papers do I need to provide ?
- Foreign
registration document (Title)
- License
plate number, if it doesn’t appear on the Title (registration card)
- Custom
receipt - Your original work permit (“Carte de séjour”)
- Proof
of your address in France (electricity / telephone bill)
These documents
will be needed for a short period of time, generally only two (2) days,
to register your file with the appropriate authorities.
